Who are the Monarch Mamas?

Who is Monarch Mamas?

In 2018, I visited a plant nursery in Fallbrook, California. It was October  and many lingering summer plants were on sale. I walked by pots of milkweed (only $5!) and couldn’t resist buying two plants. That night I planted them next to my kitchen and little did I know I was down the path to starting a business to save Monarch butterflies.

That first spring, dozens of Monarch butterflies came to my yard and used my milkweed to lay their eggs. I wanted to help them but I had no idea what I was doing! I soon found that the caterpillars were eating me out of house and home (the milkweed!) and I found myself buying more and more to accommodate them. As I learned more about milkweed and the butterflies they attracted, I was horrified at reading articles about their plummeting population numbers – due to lack of their host plant, milkweed.

I felt inadequate about helping them and wanted to do better, so I learned and researched and DIY’d my way into raising them better, safer, and easier. Now, I want to bring my own conservation efforts and learning directly to you – the citizen scientists who care about Monarchs just like I do!
